Houston Avenue

3005 Houston is a transformative historic rehabilitation and addition. Having served as three separate apartments in the main house and three separate apartments in the accessory building for many years, the property had been left to severely decline. The owners behind FW Heritage purchased the property for their own personal home. Properties in this location  immediately outside of Woodlawn Heights Historic District are most often demolished for new speculative construction since they are not in a historic district with protections.   The new owners showed their dedication to preserving the large, single-family house by reinstating all original rooms and exteriors. Over 500 square feet of contemporary enclosed spaces on the front of the house were demolished to resurrect the full front entry porch and the original front elevation. A new 1000 square foot rear addition contains a modern kitchen and utility on the ground floor and master suite amenities on the 2nd floor. Houston Avenue is also a 2017 Preservation Houston Good Brick Award winner.
