Knox House

Designed as a modern starter house to complement the original 1924 starter house on the property, 1302a is a highly efficient garage apartment. The structure is just one element in a master plan that includes the 1924 cottage, lawn, gardens and garden patio and is sited in the far corner of a standard urban lot in a quickly redeveloping Washington Avenue corridor neighborhood. The 870 SF of upstairs living space is strategically sited for a treehouse-like experience creating a sense of space much greater than the actual limited square footage. Noted for its creative economy of space and responsiveness to site, 1302 and 1302a were included in the 2009 Rice Design Alliance Small Houses X9 annual architecture tour, and is included in the AIA Houston Architectural Guide, Third Edition.
