Lubbock Cottage

This small, simple cottage was designed to serve as an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) in the rear yard of a large Queen Anne Victorian house in a historic district known for its high quality Victorian buildings and high density urban fabric. Within the very efficient 400 square foot footprint fits the living area, kitchen, full bathroom, and laundry closet. The 2nd floor loft accessed via a staircase accommodates a sleeping area; both stair and room are full-sized and are designed for mature, modern living. Early in the planning process it was decided that the cottage envelope would be a traditional response to the main house albeit detailed with subtle, modern lines and patterns to clearly define this as a new building.
